Jennifer Scappettone’s work with languages spans scholarly and creative modes of inquiry, and a variety of disciplines—in line with an abiding interest in the material repercussions of built, neglected, and mythologized environments on those who imagine and inhabit them, and the way the literary arts contribute to their shape.

Join scholar Bill Brown (University of Chicago, Department of English) , architect Ted Brown, artist and Gray Center curator Zachary Cahill, and cross-disciplinary writer Jennifer Scappettone (University of Chicago, Department of English), and artist Jessica Stockholder (University of Chicago, Department of Visual Arts) for an evening of food and conversation about the role of assemblage in each of their given practices.
This collaborative performance and installation by recetent Gray Center Mellon Fellows Judd Morrissey, and Jennifer Scappettone, along with Abraham Avnisan, will tap the sprawling veins of urban architecture, mining the material and telecommunications infrastructures within a house, while channeling the histories of its inhabitants and their spectral predecessors.
